Sport:80 revolutionises Team GB kitting-out process with innovative software

Updated: Jul 10, 2018

Whether Team GB’s athletes know it or not, Sport:80 has played a role in their journey to the Olympic Games in Rio this summer.

More than a year ago we began working with the British Olympic Association to deliver a project that would revolutionise this year’s kitting-out event at the NEC in Birmingham. The result of the project was a bespoke technology platform that transformed the entire kitting-out process and delivered what we believe is a first in the world of sport.

The platform allowed personal shoppers to swap clipboards and paper forms for tablets and send athlete kit preferences to the behind the scenes team in real-time, who then picked and packed kit bags ready for collection at the checkout.

In total, the platform assisted in the kitting-out of 833 personnel heading to Rio. This included some of Team GB’s biggest stars such as Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Tom Daley, Louis Smith, and Bradley Wiggins. More than 48,000 items of kit were handed out including 3,444 trainers, 7396 pairs of socks, 2845 bags, 1545 caps and 400 ties, all of which was recorded, managed and distributed using the new, custom built platform.

The platform revolutionised the way the British Olympic Association delivered its entire kitting-out event and we believe its use is the first of its kind in the world of sport. It is a project we are incredibly proud of and we are honoured to have played a role in Team GB’s journey to this summer’s Olympic Games.

We would like to extend our best wishes to every NGB, athlete, coach, official and individual who has worked tirelessly in the build up to the Olympic Games. Everyone at Sport:80 will be cheering you on when the games kick-off this weekend, hoping for an even better medal haul than 4 years ago.
