British Weight Lifting aims to revolutionise member engagement with cutting-edge technology

Updated: Jul 10, 2018

British Weight Lifting has announced the launch of an innovative, cloud-based service that the National Governing Body (NGB) believes will revolutionise interaction with its members.

The technology will provide British Weight Lifting members with a dedicated online area from which they can manage their affiliation with the NGB. David Gent, Director of Development at British Weight Lifting believes the project will play an important role in connecting members to the sport they love:

“The launch of this new service will provide greater control to our members. At the click of a button they will be able to log in, purchase and renew memberships, enter events, sign up to courses and ultimately build their profile within the sport.”

This is the first project that British Weight Lifting has launched alongside its new technology partner, Sport:80, a company that specialises in sport management technology. British Weight Lifting is confident that the newly established partnership will also support the NGB in its strategic goals to improve accessibility to the sport and drive levels of participation.

“We recognise the importance of having an online presence which both simplifies access to the sport and provides a clear pathway for new people to get involved. By working with Sport:80 we are now able to deliver this kind of service. Anyone who is interested in getting involved in weight lifting can simply head over to our website, become a member within minutes, access educational materials, find a club and get going.”

The new system will also benefit British Weight Lifting operationally, providing a centralised database from which the NGB can manage a number of key functions. It will also provide invaluable insight in to areas such as member activity, participation, events and finances. David Gent explained how it will allow the NGB to be much more dynamic:

“Sport:80’s technology will automate a lot of the time consuming and repetitive admin tasks that we experience on a daily basis. It will produce incredibly valuable data which we can utilise to make intelligence-based decisions and drive the development of our sport.”

In the coming months British Weight Lifting will be working closely with Sport:80 to introduce additional functionality for areas such as e-commerce and virtual competitions.
