Pilot project lays the foundation for Cricket Wales digital club network

Updated: Jul 10, 2018

Last year our partnership with Cricket Wales resulted in an innovative pilot project that used the Sport:80 Platform to help the NGB increase levels of engagement with its clubs. The success of the pilot has since laid the foundations for the next phase of project, with Cricket Wales aiming to create a digital network for its entire club system.

The pilot project provided a selection of the NGBs clubs with access to the Sport:80 Platform, enabling them to collect junior player information and their annual membership fees. The online platform meant that the membership sign up process could be carried out at the leisure of parents, coaches and club administrators, and completed and paid for within minutes rather than days. It replaced paper forms and payment by cash or cheque with an online membership sign up tool and payment system.

By delivering this pilot, Cricket Wales was able to provide both its clubs and individual members with a greater level of service, saving time and money in the process. The NGB was also able to benefit from the information collected, as it provided an overview of the junior players at the selected clubs. The project demonstrated the potential for the technology to be rolled out to a wider network and that’s exactly what Cricket Wales is now aiming to do.

The success of the pilot will now see Cricket Wales offer all of its 250 (or so) clubs access to the technology for the 2017 season. It will enable the clubs to process memberships for both junior and senior players and, having refined a number of features within the technology, we are confident that it will exceed the level of success experienced during the pilot.

The next phase of the project will aim to create a digital network including every club and cricketer in Wales; something that has never been done in the sport in the UK. While it’s an ambitious target, the Sport:80 Platform will provide Cricket Wales with the means to achieve this. In doing so, all clubs and individuals involved in cricket across Wales will benefit from a much more accessible and simple means of engaging with the sport. In addition to this, Cricket Wales will have access to a wealth of information linked to the sport (because all engagement is securely stored on the Platform), which can be used to drive its development for years to come.
