British Weight Lifting (BWL) has announced the launch of its new online membership and events platform called ‘BARS’ (BWL’s Administration and Results System).
BARS is the result of a lot of hard work alongside Sport:80, the NGBs technology partner. Now live, BARS will provide all BWL members, and those interested in getting involved in weight lifting, with greater access to the sport.
The online platform will provide lifters with a host of member and event services including the ability to register and renew memberships, create an online profile and enter competitions and courses. A significant element of the project was to make strides towards completely paperless operations, and the introduction e-membership cards (Apple and Android Wallet) and e-certificates will see the NGB make those initial steps. Furthermore, all BWL coaches and technical officials will be able to manage their licences and qualifications online as well as being able to enrol on to courses and awards.
David Gent, Development Director at BWL described the launch of BARS as “a huge step forward for the use of technology at British Weight Lifting” and that the platform would be “a foundation upon which the organisation can deliver a greater level of engagement and service to members”. He added, “Sport:80 has been fantastic in turning our vision in to a reality and I’ve no doubt that the partnership will deliver benefits across the sport for years to come”.
In the coming months BWL will be working closely with Sport:80 to launch additional features on the BARS platform. This will include the introduction of event sanctioning tools to allow members to submit details of their own events for online entry, and a results and rankings module that will auto-assign points based on competition performance.
