Badminton Ireland turns to technology to bring its sporting community together

Badminton Ireland, the country’s National Governing Body for the sport of badminton, has embarked on the build of a new digital membership system for the management of and engagement with members, clubs, leagues, counties, and branches across the country.

The organisation – the umbrella body that represents more than 100,000 people playing badminton regularly in Ireland - is working with Sheffield-based sports tech specialists Sport:80 on the system. Sport:80 already works with more than 50 governing bodies around the world, including USA Track and Field. The new platform will integrate several areas, including membership registration and renewals; management of nationwide membership; player grades, as well as the governing body’s Teicnic awards programme, which focuses on the technical progression of players at key stages in their playing development.

Work is also underway to develop an integration between Badminton Ireland’s existing competition entry and management system and the new platform.

David McGill, CEO of Badminton Ireland, explains why Sport:80 was the right partner for the National Governing Body:

“We conducted a thorough tender process, and Sport:80 stood out among others involved. They are highly experienced in delivering solutions of this kind for National Governing Bodies of Sport, and they were able to very clearly outline how they would deliver against our immediate and future needs. Now work is under way, we are excited to launch our new membership system later this year. We are confident that it will enable us to realise efficiencies across the organisation and improve engagement with badminton members, clubs, counties and branches throughout Ireland.”

“Badminton is hugely popular in Ireland, and the governing body’s adoption of our technology will enable them to deliver solutions to their community that will help underpin a sustainable future for the sport,” explains Sport:80 CEO Gary Hargraves.

“This new platform will enable them to connect with and unlock the power and value of the Irish badminton community and bring it together in a more efficient and cohesive manner.”

The Sport:80 platform facilitates registrations and renewals for all types of membership including athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters, as well as clubs, leagues, and regions. It also facilitates online payment of membership fees via an integrated payment gateway that includes both one-off and auto-renewal payments. The governing body will be able to track and manage engagement with members much more efficiently as well as being able to react to their needs in real-time.
